America's Conservative website. Our goals: Fiscal Responsibility in Government. Eliminate non-functioning bureaucracy. Take back Del Norte County 2012.
Roger Gitlin is running for Del Norte County Supervisor #1, June 5. Roger is running on a platform of: Let's Fix it !
The local economy: The Top priority of this campaign is to create the atmosphere to attract private sector jobs. It is Jobs ! Jobs ! Jobs ! Del Norte County suffers from 14% unemployment. Let's Fix it.
Onerous Regulations: Crippling rules and regulations stunt growth. Let's make it easy for business to open its doors and start hiring immediately. When an exisiting business must devote countless hours to filling our forms, that's less time the entrepreneur has to grow his business. Let's Fix it.
Education: College is not for everyone! Graduates are coming out of high school with little or no skills, academic or vocational. I propose the expansion of vocational trade skills and attracting a trade school to Del Norte County. Our children can graduate with real-life skills and hit the road running, earning an excellent living. Let's Fix it.
Tourism: The major savior of hope for Del Norte County is Tourism. Grow it! Develop it! Improve it! 17,000 people walk through the Visitor's Center every year. 700,000 drive through Del Norte County, annually. We have much to see and do in beauitiful Del Norte County. Let's bring out the welcome mat to Del Norte's visitors. Let's give our visitors wonderful memories and in return, they leave town with empty wallets. Let's Fix it
Crime / Drugs : The numbers are alarming! 172% increase in spousal battery in the County. The Meth problem in Del Norte County is out of control. The Del Norte County Drug Task Force must be fully-funded. Give law enforcement the tools necessary to do the job. Let's Fix it.
Infrastructure: Highway 199 needs widening. Though Del Norte County is finally receiving another Broadband line, these improvements are long in coming. Residents in our community have been forced to endure long delays mired in government red tape. Let's Fix it.
Airport / Harbor: The airport needs another 1,000 feet to attract medium size jets. Let's improve our airport. Del Norte needs a northern link to Medford, Portland, and Seattle. Improvements are in the works but will fall through the bureaucratic cracks unless this Board of Supervisors is vigilant and holds Sacramento and Washington to their promises. Let's Fix it.
Access to Del Norte County: Only 22% of Del Norte County is accessible and providing a local tax base. The Federal and State government own the vast majority of the County and are attempting to acquire more. This hurts our private sector. State and Federal road closures prevent our citizens and visitors alike from enjoying this magnificent region. Open up Del Norte County! Let's Fix it.
Take a bit out of blight: It's time to put your money where your mouth is. There are countless eye sores in our community, including abandoned shopping carts strewn about the streets, piled up trash and old tires, and ugly grafitti which detract from the beauty that surrouds Del Norte. I plan to donate 10% of my salary as Supervisor to fund the program, Take a Bite out Of Blight. Our plan is not to involve government in this clean-up of Del Norte, but involve the efforts of churches and commuity outreach groups to help clean up this mess! Let's fix it.
The same problems and the same politicians equal the same results. It's time for a change.
